With financial support from the Inukai Family Foundation and the PSU Educational Activities Speakers Board, the PSU Center for Japanese studies presented “Momotaro’s Wars: Images of Disasters and Transnational Cinema in Japan” by Professor Hikari Hori from Columbia University.
Dr Hori, who is an expert on Japanese visual culture, engaged an audience of close to 140 students and community members, discussing how disasters are depicted in media like manga, animé and ukiyo-e/prints from World War II. The 50 minute presentation, which included vintage film clips and a variety of slides was followed by an additional lively 35 minute question and answer session. The event was held on February 12, 2015.
